Pizon Unveils New Single “Handcuffs” Featuring Timid and Walter Kelly: A Powerful Examination of Racism and Policing in America
“Handcuffs” presents a bold, raw depiction of police misconduct and systemic racism. Pizon, rapping from the perspective of a stereotypical antagonizing officer, delivers biting commentary that reflects the often toxic dynamic between law enforcement and marginalized communities. Timid, rapping as a Black man being unjustly accosted by the police, offers a personal perspective on the constant threat of racial profiling. The song is capped by Walter Kelly, who delivers a poignant spoken word piece, reflecting on the experience of being Black in America and adding depth to the track’s exploration of institutional racism.
Pizon says of the release: “We wanted to tell this story in a way that highlighted the voices of those so often silenced. This remains a problem in our society, as reminded recently by the killing of Sonya Massey. The goal is to inspire conversation that can bring about change.”
As the latest single from his forthcoming album Mic Scholar, “Handcuffs” is an example of Pizon’s fearless approach to blending music and activism. Tackling societal and political issues, Mic Scholar promises to be a groundbreaking exploration of political rap and Hip Hop songwriting.
